American standard, European standard, national standard charging gun and temperature sensor

December 22 , 2022
In the context of the rapid occupation of the automobile market by new energy vehicles, we have seen a practical problem through the major brands of electric vehicles sold in the market: because of the inconsistent charging standards, the charging interfaces of each brand are different, and the charging technology is also different.
And this directly leads to the current sales of charging guns under different standards, with different design requirements. What are the design specifications of the charging gun? What are the different requirements of the temperature sensor according to the specification?
At present, the global charging standard is roughly divided into three categories: one is the US standard, one is the European standard, and one is the national standard. According to the charging technology, it can be divided into DC charging standard and AC charging standard.
The interface is used as the dividing standard
· "American Standard"
SAE J1772 AC charging standard. It is an umbrella term that includes 4 subdivisions and 3 different charging interface shapes. The AC charging standard and the DC charging standard are divided into Level 1 and Level 2 specifications. The main difference between the two specifications is the difference in output power.
· "European Standard"
Also known as the Type 2 charging standard, Tesla uses the Mennekes Type 2 interface in Europe. It corresponds to Type 1 of the "American standard". This is the standard used by Tesla's European cars, which also come in AC and DC versions. The most obvious difference between American and European standards is the number of "jacks". A "jack" is a "pole" of the charging port, each "pole" does a certain amount of work, but not all "poles" are used to transmit power.
· "National Standard"
It is only used in China and has regional limitations. From the technical point of view, "national standard" is based on the "European standard" improvement of an agreement. This agreement is issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, belongs to the "recommended" level standard, but does not have the administrative force. And this is also one of the main reasons why the charging standards of various areas are not uniform. But at present, the new national standard attaches particular importance to the safety of charging pile, so in rainy days insulation, avoid electric shock and other aspects have made a breakthrough.
Charging technology is used as the dividing standard
Based on the charging technology, it can be divided into DC (DC) standard and AC (AC) standard, but the corresponding charging standard of different brands may be different.
Dc is divided into three categories: first, Japanese CHAdeMO, second, national DC charging standard and third, CCS. For charging guns of different standards, there are both similarities and differences in design.
Take national standard AC charging gun VS European standard charging gun for example:
The common denominator is the same pin and jack, temperature sensor on the gun head; The difference is that the voltage is 250V, there is a mechanical lock, micro switch, pin mounted on the gun head.
Through comparative analysis, the workload of national standard AC charging gun design is greater than that of European standard; In terms of difficulty, the European standard design difficulty in the plug and the main body connection structure, the national standard AC charging gun design focus on the main part.
Through the above discussion, we can understand that different standards, specifications have great differences, so can not achieve a unified standard in the short term. However, for different standard charging gun design, designers still need to strictly follow the standard design, design specifications, quality assurance, while meeting the design requirements, to provide users with a safe and comfortable charging experience.
