What are the common temperature sensors and how do we use them?

What is a temperature sensor

We can feel the temperature and can be converted into output signals called temperature sensors, such as our daily life to open the air conditioning inside the temperature sensor is used to provide temperature sensing function.

What are the classifications of temperature sensors

We commonly divided into two main categories: resistance sensing and thermocouple sensing. Resistance sensing is mainly covered in middle school physics, and there are four main types: 1. thermistor; 2.

positive temperature coefficient Thermistor (PTC); 3. Negative temperature coefficient thermistor (NTC); 4. Critical temperature thermistor (CTR).

How temperature sensors work

Here we focus on the principle of resistance sensing. It mainly utilizes the property that the resistance of certain materials changes with temperature to detect temperature, such as platinum.

The main characteristics are small size; good mechanical properties, such as vibration and shock resistance; easy to install; long service time.

Thermal resistance sensing is when the temperature rises, the electronic movement in the conductor will be more intense, the greater the

resistance will be, such as the small light bulb in our life is a typical example.

A positive temperature coefficient thermistor is a thermistor that has a sudden and sharp increase in resistance when it reaches a specific temperature, and is generally used for overheating protection of electrical equipment, early warning of fires, and so on.

Negative temperature coefficient thermal sensitivity with temperature and resistance into an inverse relationship. It is generally used to measure temperature, and can measure the interval of -10℃~300℃.

Critical temperature thermistor is to reach a specific temperature interval, the resistance value decreases sharply, generally used in trigger switch, for the protection of electronic circuits, temperature control alarm.
